On May 16th, 2016, The School of Music and Mayhem flipped the switch and is now powered 100% by solar energy... becoming the first music school in the Midwest to be powered entirely by the sun! To commemorate the event we wrote and recorded a song that is long... 8 minutes and 20 seconds long to be exact.
Why 8 minutes and 20 seconds?... That's the time it takes a photon to burst off the surface of the sun, travel through space, then land on the solar panels. When the song fades and you feel the warmth of the sun on your face, those are the same photons that were leaving the sun's surface at the start of the song!
It's the story about Daedalus learning to let Icarus fly free.

The Solar Suite
A story about Daedalus learning to let Icrus fly free
Part I: Come Fly With Me (from the sun to mercury)
Imprisoned by the chains you create, yeah.
You learn to love but embrace hate,
Now time, time is a fickle thing when you let it slip away
Reigns won’t control her.
And the brakes won’t make it any slow
No the walls you build, there not getting any lower.
Come fly with me, but don’t melt your wings
Come fly, set yourself free
Set it free
Now love, love and its tenderness
It can burn you fast
There’s no healing in these shark infested waters
But it’s where you choose to swim
Freedom stripped away is a great igniter
When you can’t tunnel out, you must fly a little higher
Come fly with me, but don’t melt your wings
Come fly, set yourself free
Set it free
Imprisoned by the chains you create
Come fly with me, but don’t melt your wings
Come fly, set yourself free
Set it free
Set it free
Fly with me
Part II: Catch You If I Can (from Mercury to Venus)
Take these wings my son
For freedom hangs in the breeze
But you must not fly to low
And to fly too high is,
Is the curse of flight
So seductive are those soaring heights
Oh but with melted wings, it’s never a soft landing
Never a soft landing
But I will catch you if I can
I will catch you if I can
It’s a danger zone
We all must fly alone
And I must learn to let you fall
Whoa the mistakes me make
they still reververate
The not so gentle reminders of our past
Oh to fly so high is the curse of flight
So seductive are those soaring heights
Oh and with melted wings it’s never a soft landing
It’s never a soft landing
And I will catch you if I can
I will catch you if I can
Yes I will catch you if I can
I will catch you if I can
Part III: The Letting Go (from Venus to Earth)
Take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me with you
Take a little piece of me
Take, take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me with you
Take a little DNA and a little mutate
And you’ll be well on your way, yeah yeah yeah
Take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me with you, oh no, no
You got what you need to be on your way
Just fly, fly, fly free
No don’t, don’t look back
You’ll never be the same
No you’ll never be the same as me, no
Take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me
Take a little piece of me with you
You got what you need to be on your way
To fly, fly, fly, fly, fly free
Oh no, just don’t look back
Fly free
Please don’t, don’t melt your wings
